The fitness industry is rife with body shaming, racism, enforcement of gender binaries, ableism, and a lack of representation by queer folks. Even when the training is solid, it can be stressful to participate in a program that doesn’t understand you at all.

You shouldn’t have to compromise your identity in order to strengthen your body.

I created this website because as a personal trainer  a lot of folks would reach out to me for advice on starting a fitness program.
For the past few years, I have focused on training clients of all different gender identities and ability levels and have heard their struggles.
Fitness shouldn’t be inaccessible to anyone.
I think everyone should have the opportunity to strengthen the connection to their physical body.
So,I decided to combine with knowledge as a personal trainer and athlete with my experiences as a queer transgender person of color with the understanding I have of those who haven’t had access to the kind of training I have.
And Buff Butch was born.

So, What is the Buff Butch Training Program?

Fitness made for the queer & transgender trainee, by queer & transgender trainers.
The program isn’t about altering your appearance to conform to the norm.
It is fitness for self care and self love.
The emphasis is helping you to re-connect with your body through the strength training principles I was taught by master trainers.
Strength is a skill and just like any skill must be learned through mastering the fundamentals.
You will learn the proper techniques behind the movements proven to help coordination. Once you have learned how to move in your body as you were intended, you will start strengthening these movements.

What Makes Buff Butch Different From the Rest?

Our training programs are created not only an experienced personal trainers, but those who actually understand what it is to be queer & transgender.  Because, well, it’s their lived experience. This program has been made specifically with our community in mind.

Fitness as Self Care

Fitness should be a tool for self care, not another source of stress. The goal of every work from Buff Butch is to help mobilize stress hormones and center yourself by utilizing movements focusing on improving your connection to your body.

Not Focused on Aesthetics

One of the biggest problems with a lot of fitness programs out there is the whole focus is getting your body to look a certain way. But if you exist outside society’s norms, this probably isn’t your goal. The intention of this training program isn’t to look a certain way, but to feel more confident in your body’s capabilities.

Less of a workout video and more like a how-to

You don’t start learning algebra without learning basic arithmetic and learning how to move your body is no different.You won’t get dumped into the deep waters right off the bat here. Buff Butch was created to teach trainees the proper technique and gradually increase the difficulty. That way you know actually what you’re doing even if you choose to stop using Buff Butch and follow another exercise plan.

Easy to Follow

I want to make fitness as easy as possible for you. So we’ve removed all the guesswork and done all the heavy lifting for you. Each week you’ll be given three days worth of training outlined down to how many reps, sets and how long you rest. To make things even easier to follow, you’ll have access to videos leading you through every exercise movement and audio cues to follow along.


In addition to videos, you’ll also be given PDF downloads to guide you through each days exercise. Perfect for taking with you on the go so you can continue your training away from the internet.

Traing Anywhere, Anytime

You’ll have access to the video course 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. No waiting for a trainer or stressing about the locker room.You can train from the privacy of your own home or at a gym, the choice is yours.

About the Creator

My name is Pat Manuel and I am an amateur boxing champion and personal trainer.I created Buff Butch in order to fill the void of queer fitness interests. It is my intention to use my privileges to remove the barriers keeping members of my community from enjoying fitness training.

Frequently Asked Questions

This program is intended for those with little to no experience with fitness. If you’ve always wanted to start training, but have been intimidated or you have already trained before, but are unsure if you’re doing it properly, this is the program for you.

Currently,we are working hard to improve on the inclusivity of Buff Butch and I encourage you to contact us to see if we are a fit for your ability level.

As this is a monthly ongoing online fitness program, there is a monthly fee that will automatically be deducted to continue to have access to the videos.

If you are no longer able to continue the training, you can cancel at any time.

You don’t have to take up part time residency in the gym to benefit from physical training.

Taking into account your busy lifestyle, the workouts from Buff Butch should only take from 30-60 minutes of time a day. And you’ll only be performing these workouts 3 days a week.

For as long as you want! I would prefer if you do not share the course and support the business of a queer transgender person of color.
